SHILOH MESSENGER - December 2019

Following Jesus’ Footsteps by Fulfilling Our Commission

“And proclaim as you go, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons.” (Matthew 10:7-8)

Not your typical Christmas opening Scripture, But yet so vital. The Most important decision that one will ever make is what will you do with CHRIST? Time is short, and the reality of Eternity is before us. The World is Chaotic, and Scripture has been fulfilled and being fulfilled before our very eyes. We all will stand before The Lord. We all will bow before HIM. Will your life have mattered? Have you and are you making an impact for HIS Glory? Are you living to represent HIM? Are you desiring to truly live out Matthew 22:37– 40? Loving Him with all your heart soul, mind and strength and loving others as yourself? Or are you living for yourself, only caring about yourself? Are you ready to meet HIM? And will you hear well done my good and faithful servant? The Best Christmas Message is a year-round Message. “For God so loved the world that HE gave HIS only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in HIM shall not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16. That one word believe is deep and has more in it that just believing that Christ exist and what HE has done for Mankind. It means to TRUST completely and hold unto unswervingly and to follow undeniably by taking up our cross (anything that would interfere with us being an apprentice of Jesus) and following HIM. Our destiny is to be conformed to HIS image. How much like Jesus are you looking like today? Do your actions portray that you are a Christ Follower? DO YOU KNOW HIM?

We want to continue highlighting certain men and women that have made an eternal impact in our world for The Sake of The Gospel . They are true heroes of The Faith having made and continue to make an Eternal Significance. In closing this year out and for the month of December we believe it is very suitable to feature William and Catherine Booth. In the following paragraphs we will share portions of their biography from The Revival Study Bible.

William Booth ( 1829-1912) Founder of the Salvation Army, and one of the world’s greatest social reformers, was born in Nottingham England, on April 10th, 1829. His Parents were members of the Established Church, and his Mother was a devout Christian. His Father made considerable money but had the misfortune to lose it, and could not afford to send Booth to school. As a result he was apprenticed to a pawnbroker at the age of thirteen and later in the same year, his Father died. Being the only Son, Booth became responsible to provide for his widowed mother and his sisters. It was through his having lived in poverty that Booth became personally aware of the sorrow and suffering of the poor. During his teenage years, Booth was a Social Reformer, longing to do something to alleviate the sufferings of the poor. He left the Church of England at an early age to become a regular attendant at a Wesleyan Chapel, where he yielded his heart and life to God Saying, “ The HOLY SPIRIT had continually shown me that MY REAL WELFARE FOR TIME AND ETERNITY DEPENDED UPON THE SURRENDER OF MYSELF TO THE SERVICES OF GOD, After a long controversy, I made the submission, cast myself on HIS Mercy, received the assurance of HIS Pardon, and gave myself up to HIS service with all my heart. The hour, the place, and many other particulars of this glorious transaction are recorded indelibly in my memory.” This craggy, baggy, General of The Salvation Army God raised up under HIS Leadership made an ongoing mark against the sin and suffering of the world that still continues to this day. Combining a militant vision with might compassion that reached out to myriads in the slums and streets. Booth brought a Revival based message of hope and restoration to those written off by Society. He said, “My only hope for the permanent deliverance of mankind from misery in this world or the next, is the remaking of an individual by the power of The HOLY GHOST through JESUS CHRIST.”

Catherine Booth (1829– 1890) Evangelist, and Co-Founder of the Salvation Army. Methodist. England. Catherine had a strong Christian upbringing, having read the Bible eight times before she was twelve. In 1865, together with her husband, William, they founded the East London Christian Mission (today known as the Salvation Army) to help the destitute and hungry. She began to preach, breaking the tradition that disallowed women from preaching, and to minister to those in need. Catherine was a champion of a woman’s right to minister and was a powerful and passionate voice in her time. Her writings still affect generations today.

When you see many Salvation Army Buckets in front of local Stores during this Christmas Season, Know this, The Founders were Godly People who feared The Lord and were an extension of HIS Heart to lost and Needy Humanity. WE have often asked those whom are standing by those buckets ringing those bells if they know who Founded The Salvation Army. As of yet, No one can tell us correctly, we therefore give a History lesson on spot as a testimony to Heroes of The Faith and what God can do with surrendered vessels with pure motives who passionately want to serve HIM and humanity.
We encourage you to spend quality time praying and seeking The Lord and to wholeheartedly give yourself to serving and adding to your faith moral excellence, knowledge, perseverance, self-control , godliness, brotherly kindness and Love. The Apostle Peter tells us in 2nd Peter chapter 1 if we do not add these virtues to our faith then we are short sighted even to blindness and have forgotten that we were cleansed form our old sins. JESUS PAID THE PRICE FOR OUR REDEEMPTION. HE IS WORTHY TO RECEIVE HIS FULL INHERITANCE FROM OUR LIVES.
