It Comes From Above

“Pure, Peace-loving, Kind, Considerate, Merciful, Impartial & Sincere” James 3:17

We live in the knowledge age. If you have a phone, you can literally google anything, and you will readily see all sorts of answers pop up. Many people look for solutions and plans to their problems. Information is good, but the only true source of wisdom comes from above. God’s word tells us that the beginning of wisdom is to Fear the Lord. To fear The Lord is respect, honor, reverence, and taking seriously who God is and all He represents. Some boast about their knowledge and degrees but are unwise in how they live out their lives. An individual can be highly educated and make a disaster of their lives. People that are very famous also can make a ruin of their lives, and great people of power can make a mess of their lives as well. In the book of Proverbs, it tells us exactly how to obtain wisdom. Proverbs 2:1-7 reads, “ My Son if you receive My words, make your ear attentive, incline your heart to understanding, if you cry for discernment, lift your voice for understanding and if you seek for her as silver and search for her as for hidden treasures then you will discern The Fear Of The Lord and discover the knowledge of God. For The Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth knowledge and understanding. He stores up sound wisdom for the upright. He is a shield to those who walk in integrity.” Wisdom is vital. We must know how to obtain it. The person who is wise will avoid many pitfalls in their life because they understand what that word means. Godly Wisdom is getting God’s perspective. Godly wisdom is one of our greatest possessions. Wisdom is desiring to please God above all else.

1. We obtain wisdom by seeking it. When we seek wisdom, we seek to know God’s heart & mind and act according to His unchanging truth. We then respond to situations from an eternal perspective. Wisdom is a great defense. “Call upon Me, and I will show you great & mighty things you do not know.” Jeremiah 33:3.

2. We acquire wisdom by meditating on God’s word. The word of God is the mind of God written on paper. If we meditate on God’s Word it will transform our lives, & We will desire more of Him. (Proverbs 4:10-13).

3. We secure wisdom by obeying the principles of scripture. We do not get wisdom by carelessly reading The Word of God. We are to be doers of The Word and not hearers only. (James 1:22)

4. We receive wisdom by praying for it. (James 1:5-6) God’s Word tells us that He will give it to us.

5. We gain wisdom by observing how God works in the world. Proverbs 6:6-11 tell us to go the ant and observe her ways and be wise. This life is about stewardship, & Godly Wisdom instructs us how to steward.

6. We become wise by heeding Godly counsel. Do they fear The Lord? Are they righteous? (Prov.12:5) Have they taken up their cross & following Jesus? Wise counsel must come from someone who truly loves Jesus.

7. We are blessed with wisdom by associating with the wise. (Proverbs 13:20) “He who walks with the wise, will be wise.” A person that is not following Jesus is not wise. “Bad company corrupts good morals.” 1 Corin. 15:33. We become stronger In Christ by fellowshipping with other genuine Disciples of Jesus.

God’s word tells is in James 3:17, “But the wisdom that comes from Heaven is first of all pure, peace loving, kind, considerate, submissive, full of mercy, good fruit, impartial and sincere.” You can have Biblical Knowledge but if you do not act upon it from God’s perspective then you want be wise. The wisest thing we will ever do is acknowledge our need, confess our sins and ask Jesus to be The Lord of our lives. This is an eternal weighty decision that so many are foolishly neglecting. God’s Word instructs us to ask Him to teach us to number our days so that we may obtain a heart of wisdom. (Psalm 90:12) Time is ticking. Life is but a breath on this side. Are you living out your life with God’s eternal perspective? “Blessed is the man who fears The Lord, who greatly delights in His commandments.” Psalm 112:1. GOT WISDOM?
