One Body, In One Lord of All
Growing up in the 70’s and 80’s, I sang to a hymn in church that went like this: “One Bread, One Body, One Lord of all.” One Cup of blessing which we bless. And we, though many, throughout the earth, we are one body in this one Lord.
Now, in 2026, the world looks very different from the one I knew in my youth. In those days, moral standards were higher, and the nuclear family was the norm. As I look at the world my grandchildren are growing up in, I am more grateful than ever for these lyrics that I can still sing and pray. They remind me how important it is for them to know where to find the family they will need when the world lets them down. In a world more connected than ever, many people have never felt more alone. We exchange messages, scroll through updates, and accumulate acquaintances, yet God created us for something deeper: relationship, fellowship, and family. “They continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.” Acts 2:42 The enemy seeks to divide, isolate, and weaken. But the Spirit of God gathers, unites, and strengthens. Jesus prayed: “That they all may be one, as You, Father are in Me, and I in You.” John 17:21 Unity is not uniformity. We are wonderfully different yet supernaturally joined together through Christ. The Apostle Paul reminds us: “For as the body is one and has many members, so also in Christ.” 1 Corinthians 12:12. And again: “Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.” 1 Corinthians 12:27 The hand needs the eye. The eye needs the foot No member thrives alone. Every gift, every testimony, every prayer, every act of encouragement strengthens the whole Body. How many burdens might be lighter if shared? How many wounds might heal faster if brought into loving community? How many believers are waiting for a conversation, a prayer, a text message, or a simple invitation to remind them they belong? The Church is not merely an organization; it is a family. Family communicates. Family listens. Family prays. Family bears burdens. – “Bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2 Perhaps the Lord is inviting us deeper than attendance and into true connection. Not simply sitting beside one another but walking with one another. Not merely knowing names but knowing hearts. The world is longing to see a people who genuinely love one another. “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35 May we be that people-one heart, one mind and one family in Christ. One Bread, One Body, in one Lord of all. May our communication strengthen our relationships, our relationships strengthen our faith, and our unity reveal Jesus to a watching world. For where God’s people dwell together in unity, He commands His blessing. Psalm 133:1-3 Simple invitation: reach out, stay connected, encourage one another, and make room at the table. We need Jesus-and we need one another.
