More of Jesus, Less of Everything Else

“Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ,” Philippians 3:8

 

The tragedy of this age is not merely sin, it is distraction. Many are drinking from cracked cisterns while the Fountain of Living Water stands near, still inviting, still speaking, still stretching out nail-scarred hands. Jesus said, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink” (John 7:37). The invitation has never changed. Heaven’s answer for humanity is still a person.

We often ask God for strength, peace, purpose, clarity, and healing, while overlooking that every answer is found in deeper union with Christ Himself. He is not merely the Giver of bread-He is the Bread of Life (John 6:35). He is not merely a light source-He is the Light of the world (John 8:12). Everything from the Kingdom flows from abiding in Him.

The Gospel is not only about escaping judgement; it is about becoming fully alive in Christ. Scripture says, “In Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell” (Colossians 1:19), and through Him we have redemption, peace, purpose, and eternal hope. Every longing of the human soul ultimately points back to Him. Jesus is not an addition to life-He is life itself.

The Church must remember this in the days ahead. Jesus asked a sobering question: “When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8). He is not searching for impressive crowds, religious performance, or polished appearances. He is looking for hearts that still believe Him when storms rage, cultures shift, and darkness increases. Faith is the oil preserved in the lamp while waiting for the Bridegroom’s return (Matthew 25:1-13).

The age to come is not fantasy-it is reality approaching. Scripture reveals a coming Kingdom where righteousness reigns, tears are wiped away, death is defeated, and Christ is glorified openly before all creation (Revelation 21:1-5). This present world is like morning fog-it appears briefly and vanishes (James 4:14). But Jesus remains eternal, unshaken, and worthy of total surrender.

More of Jesus means allowing Him into every hidden room of the heart. It means trading ego for humility, noise for stillness, striving for surrender. John the Baptist captured the cry of maturity in one sentence: “He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30). The closer we draw to Jesus, the more counterfeit loves lose their grip.

Christ is not preparing spectators for His return-He is preparing a Bride who longs for her Husband. A people whose hearts burn like living altars. A people who know that beyond prophecy charts, headlines, and earthly uncertainty, the greatest treasure is still intimacy with the King Himself.

All we truly need is Jesus. And then, more of Jesus.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, awaken our hearts from distraction and draw us deeper into Your presence. Teach us to hunger for You above every earthly thing. Strengthen our faith for the age to come and let our lives burn brightly with love and devotion as we await Your return. In Your name Jesus. Amen
