Who Am I? Who Am I? “What is man that You think of him, And a son of man that You are concerned about him?
The Wonder versus the Question— There are times when we find ourselves caught between awe of God and uncertainty about our belonging. At these moments, God’s lamp lovingly shines inward, revealing places within us that are ready for healing—a precious opportunity. At the same time, His light illuminates our gifts and callings, reminding us of cherished memories, unfulfilled dreams, and promises yet to be realized. In this space, our hearts sit between two ways of asking, "Who Am I?" One perspective is rooted in wonder; the other in questioning. We often ask ourselves questions like "Am I enough?" or "Will things ever change?" Because these questions sound the same—but have the propensity to lead us in different directions, creating a gap where the enemy has become well practiced at aiming his fiery darts. To counter these doubts, scripture reminds us to remain vigilant and steadfast. "Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like grownups, be strong." "Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life." Proverbs 4:23 Lord, even still, help us to remember that David’s words in Psalm 8 rise from awe, not insecurity. “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit Him?” Psalm 8:3-4 THIS WHO AM I is worship. It is the soul’s blessed ability to be overwhelmed by God’s grace. – David isn’t diminishing himself; he is magnifying God. But there is another who am I-one that seems to surface when the North winds are blowing with force. It starts as a whisper when desires go unmet, longings remain unfulfilled. It asks not in awe, but in ache. Why don’t I have more? Why am I still waiting? Why does this feel unfinished? All legitimate questions. But if not guarded with the voice of intimacy from our loving Father, can go from a whisper to a scream. THIS is where the enemy releases his aim. Scripture tells us plainly: “Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.” Ephesians 6:16 Practicing Faith, guarding our heart, and having sobriety of mind is essential! The enemy wants to exploit the space between wondering and questioning by appealing to our flesh-the battlefield. He will take a holy longing and twist it into entitlement. He will take a real desire and inflame it with impatience. By the time the whisper turns to a scream, we hear him saying, “If God were truly mindful of you, this would already be fulfilled.” When wonder is lost, the flesh gets louder. But (Believe, Understand, Trust) God does not only invite us into awe, He invites us into BELONGING! King David looks up and marvels at God’s greatness. The Apostle Paul inspired by The Holy Spirit looks inward and secures our belonging. But more than we care to admit we can find ourselves living somewhere between these two truths. We feel the smallness David felt, but we forget the belonging Paul proclaimed. We ask Who am I? While ignoring Whose am I? Through Christ Jesus, the God who set the heavens in place now dwells within His people. “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Colossians 1:27 The enemy wants to wound us into isolation, admiring God from a distance, negotiating our purpose in isolation. He aims his darts at our flesh, hoping we will answer Who am I? with what we crave instead of who we are. But God, with His Words of Life declares “Now you are the body of Christ, and INDIVIDUALLY members of it.” 1 Corinthians 12:27 Suddenly, the question” Who Am I?” becomes the decree “I know who I Am because I know Whose I Am!” Prayer: Lord, consume every fleshly desire with Holy Fire, silence the enemy’s darts, awaken wonder, secure our identity in Christ Jesus, and align our hearts fully with God and His will! To You, Father GOD be all glory. Amen
