Look Up & Believe“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”- Psalm 19:1
There is a manifold wisdom of God that is visible all around us- coming from above and streaming down. Beloved, look up. The heart after God has always known, the story of redemption begins with the gaze. To lift one’s eyes to the heavens is to see Him, to “hear an impression” that speaks to the soul, saying, “There’s no denying a covenantal God, as our eyes observe the multifaceted beauty of day by day and night by night.” Confirming the same God who set the galaxies spinning has never ceased to move in the lives of His people. It was with eyes lifted to the cosmos that shepherds once saw the angels proclaiming, “Glory to God in the highest!” (Luke 2:14). It was by the same upward gaze that the wise men saw the star of Bethlehem - a light piercing through history’s darkest night. Even now, the heavens tell His story again. The times evidenced in the sky – the signs, the celestial alignments, the trembling of the earth beneath – position the words of the Ancient of Days, spoken through the prophets & disciples of Jesus, fully displayed to the observant eye. These words of Heaven are playing out on earth as characters in the theatre of age to age. And to deny this is to be unobservant. Yes, the Creator is stirring His creation. The handwriting of heaven reminds humanity that the plans of the Lord have been unpacked & unfolding before our eyes. In this season of both Hanukkah and Christmas – The Festival of Lights and the Celebration of the Light of the World – let us be reminded again that God reveals Himself through light. The menorah still burns in Jewish homes, commemorating the miracle that oil which should have lasted one day burned for eight. It is a story of divine endurance – of light overcoming limitation. And at Christmas, we remember that same light, born in a humble manger, could not be extinguished by darkness, empire, or death. “In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:4-5) The lights of Hanukkah and the Star of Bethlehem both testify to this: God intervenes. He keeps His covenant. He restores what was lost. Today, as Israel stands, again, in conflict and sorrow, we are reminded that prophecy is not ancient poetry-it is present reality. The same land where the Temple once shook still trembles under the weight of promise. In the days surrounding Jesus’ 1st coming, Jewish men and women lived under Roman oppression, longing for deliverance. They prayed at the ruins of the Temple, crying out for Messiah. Then, in that very generation, Yeshuah-the Anointed One-appeared. The light of God stepped into human history. We see history echo again. The same longing, the same ache, the same cry for peace echoes from Jerusalem to every believer’s heart. These Words>Yet God’s word stands: “He who watches over Isarael neither slumbers nor sleeps.” (Psalm 121:4) So, we do not despair. We look up. Even in war, even in uncertainty, even when the world shakes - God remains faithful. His manifold wisdom still streams down from above, unseen by some, yet undeniable to those who lift their eyes. Beloved, gaze upward in faith. Because the shepherds looked up, they saw heaven opened. Because the magi looked up, they saw a star guiding them to truth. When the disciples looked up after the resurrection, they saw the promise of His return. The world may scoff and say, “Where is your God?” But those who know Him understand – His wisdom is manifold, His timing perfect, His purposes unstoppable. Every event, every sign, every stirring in the Heavens whispers: He is near. The same God who spoke light into darkness, and humanity into existence is still speaking. The same Spirit that hovered over chaos now hovers over nations, over broken hearts, over a weary Church calling her back to holiness and hope. Let us pray we are found with childlike faith that’s able to LOOK UP & BELIEVE, poor enough in spirit to “hear” faith say, “This is the hour to believe again.” Pure hearted enough to LOOK UP and “see” The same Light that split the night sky over Bethlehem still shines for us now. May we expect we will see His glory when we BELIEVE!
