Hope With Assurance

“I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living!” Psalms 27:13

We love the stories behind the old Hymns. Many of them were birthed out of great pain, grief, and extreme challenges but they have been a source of comfort and hope and blessing through the years. And most of The Psalms as well are expressions of hearts that were going through some type of intense challenge, pain, and deep sorrow but yet they are so full of hope, Why is this? Because our Hope is not on circumstances but on a Person, THE PERSON OF JESUS CHRIST.

We were reminded most recently of the Powerful Hymn, “IN TIMES LIKE THESE ” It was written in 1943. A self taught Pianist and organist Ruth Caye (1902-1972) married Bert Jones, a Pastor in Pennsylvania, and together they worked in the Evangelism Field. Late in 1943, Ruth now a Mother of 5 and wife of a busy Pastor, was reading 2 Timothy 3:1, which says, “In the last days perilous times shall come.” As She read the Pittsburgh Newspapers, and saw the World War 2 casualty lists, and heard reports on the slow progress of Allied troops moving up the boot of Italy, it seemed to her those perilous times had already come. Rationing was hitting those at home hard, discouragement was everywhere. How long could people continue to live in times like that? Ruth took out a small notepad from her apron pocket and began to write down some words. A melody came to her that seemed to fit the Words She wrote. She had no formal music training, but she was not trying to write a song that would make her famous. She was actually just putting some thoughts on paper.. But, it happened to be the right song for the right time. And, soon, people around the world were singing it. In 1948, She and her husband founded a radio ministry in Erie, PA, broadcasting a weekly Family devotional program from their home called a visit with The Jones. Years later when she was watching a Billy Graham Crusade on television, She heard George Beverly Shea sing this song… her song, and tears came to her eyes! She said, “ I can’t believe I had any part of writing this song. I just feel that God gave it to me, and I gave it to the world.” Since the day this hymn was written, it has been a blessing to countless Christians at special times of need. It has brought comfort during illness, has been used widely at funerals, has encouraged and challenged Christian Workers, and has drawn many to surrender their lives to The Lord Jesus.

Precious Friends, we are indeed living in perilous times and we do not deny it, yet we encourage you to read this hymn and today hold these morally tough times we are living in up to The Sovereignty of God.

“In times like these, You need a Savior, In times like these, you need an Anchor, be very sure, be very sure, your Anchor holds and grips the SOLID ROCK!”

“THE ROCK IS JESUS, YES, HE’S THE ONE. THE ROCK IS JESUS, THE ONLY ONE. BE VERY SURE, BE VERY SURE, YOUR ANCHOR HOLDS, AND GRIPS THE SOLID ROCK. IN TIMES LIKE THESE, YOU NEED THE BIBLE, IN TIMES LIKE THESE, O BE NOT IDLE! BE VERY SURE, BE VERY SURE, YOUR ANCHOR HOLDS AND GRIPS THE SOLID ROCK. IN TIMES LIKE THESE, I HAVE A SAVIOR, IN TIMES LIKE THESE, I HAVE AN ANCHOR, I’M VERY SURE, I’M VERY SURE, MY ANCHOR HOLDS AND GRIPS THE SOLID ROCK. “

As we type this note, we have been preparing and in earnest prayer regarding the potential projection of “Hurricane Laura” We continue to use our BLOOD BOUGHT Authority given to us by THE LORD JESUS and speak to that Storm to dissipate In JESUS NAME, and again, we know it is not our circumstances that gives us peace, BUT YET OUR ANCHOR AND HIS NAME IS JESUS.

“ For The Mountains may be removed and hills may be shaken, MY LOVING DEVOTION WILL NOT DEPART FROM YOU AND MY COVENANT OF PEACE WILL NOT BE BROKEN, SAYS THE LORD, WHO HAS COMPASSION ON YOU.” Isaiah 54:10

We are Thankful that HIS WORD gives us many precious TRUTHS and PROMISES. HE tells us, “ YOU WILL KEEP HIM IN PERFECT PEACE, WHOSE MIND IS STAYED ON YOU, BECAUSE HE TRUSTS IN YOU. “ ISAIAH 26:3
HE ALSO REMINDS US, “PERFECT LOVE CAST OUT FEAR.” 1 John 4:18

JESUS TOLD US, “ IN THIS WORLD, YOU WILL HAVE TRIBULATION, BUT BE OF GOOD CHEER, FOR I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD.” John 16:33. Be encouraged! We are living in some of the most unfamiliar times in all of History and He has chosen us each for such a time as this!!! Make your election sure and hold firmly to that SOLID ROCK , JESUS!
