John 4:14 "But whoever drinks the water I
give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will
become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life".
Here is a great prophecy. Our LORD says; "Whoever drinks
the water I give Him". This "Water" was not just
for the women at the well. It is for you and me. Jesus Christ was
identifying what the woman was lacking in her life. She was trying
to fulfill her loneliness with un-godly relationships. Our LORD
knew if He could get all of us into a place of drinking from the
true "Fountain of Life" we would never seek the things
of the world to satisfy our desire to be loved.
Paul says in Col. 2:10; "you are complete in Him".
In 1 Corinthians 10:4; Paul writes, "And all drank the same
spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock,
which followed them; and the rock was Christ". In this
New Testament passage Paul is referring to the rock that God
supplied from which water flowed for the Israelites as they
wandered in the wilderness. Equally important as the rock was
the manner in which the water was released. Moses was told to
strike the rock. There is a beautiful passage in Isaiah
foretelling how our Savior, The Lamb of God, would be struck
down which enhances our understanding of Moses act. For the
water of the Holy Spirit to flow freely, the Lamb had to be
sacrificed. It is from His wounds that the life-giving water
comes to us. "Surely our grief's He Himself bore, and our
sorrows He carried; yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken,
smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was pierced through for
our transgressions, He was crushed for oar iniquities, the
chastening for oar well-being fell upon Him, and by His
scourging we are healed." (Isaiah 53:4,5).
The striking of the rock by Moses and the wounding, beating,
whipping, and death of Jesus Christ are essential elements of the
call from Mt. Sinai. Without the water from the rock the Israelites
would have perished. Likewise, there would be no life-giving river
flowing to a spiritually dead world through the body of believers
had it not been for the sacrificial death of Jesus. With our sins
cleansed by the blood of the Lamb we may dwell continuously at the
Fountainhead of Living Waters. Our cups need never be anything
less than overflowing. God desires that we enter into the
crucified life of His Son that we, through the anointing of the
Holy Spirit, may convey His life to a lost world. There must be
a continual thirst for God. For without it, we will be empty
vessels that cannot give drink to a thirsty world. God did not
give this lost world His one and only begotten Son as a sacrifice
for sin, just to give us a way to escape the fires of hell. In
John 10:10 Jesus said; "I have come that they may have life,
and that they may have it more abundantly". The abundant
life is a life that yields the Fruit of the Spirit. There must be
a confidence in your spirit that your life "is like a tree
planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and
whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers" (Ps. 1:3).
Yielding fruit comes because of a continuing watering from the
"River of God". Our spiritual thirst is only satisfied
with "Water" that God has provided. "The river of
God is full of water; You provide their grain, for so You have
prepared it. You water its ridges abundantly, You settle its
furrows; You make it soft with showers, You bless its growth
You crown the year with Four goodness, And Four paths drip with
abundance. They drop on the pastures of the wilderness, and the
little hills rejoice on every side. The pastures are clothed with
flocks; the valleys also are covered with grain; They shout for
joy, they also sing" (Ps. 65: 9-13).
Our lives should be one of expression of joy and thanksgiving.
It is when we are in communion with the Holy Spirit and acknowledge
the presence of Jesus that our lives are a "Fountain of
Life". "And You give them drink from the river of Your
pleasures. For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light
we see light". Ps. 36:8-9. The Holy Spirit is saying to you
through this vessel of clay, "Let him who thirsts come.
Whoever desires let him take the water of life freely."
(Revelation 22:1 7b)
What fountain of life are you drinking from? Is it bitter, or
is it fresh, and sweet?
